HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR CULTURE,
SPORT AND WORK : THE ONCST
|
In Helsinki (Finland) and 1959, Tunisia took part in an international meeting, on " the Role of Sport in the Development of the Human Being, Physical and Mental ".
In 1960, the Tunisian authorities evoked, in official meetings, the utility of sports for all classes and categories of the Tunisian employée and in particular, in the work context.
On the basis of these ideas, national days were organized December 28, and 29, 1962, on " the Physical Activity in the World of Work. " At the end of this meeting, three recommendations were made :
1 - the practice of sport in the company
2 - gymnastics at break time
3 - leisure in the world of work.
Despite of these recommendation, the ONCST was not created until 9 November 1971, under the auspices of the Ministry of Supervision (Youth and Sport), a Direction " Sport and Work " created in March 1971.
At the initiative of certain people, including Abdelwaheb Chahed, Slaheddine Thraya, Ali Stambouli and others, a public awareness campaign was launched in certain banks and companies. The total number did not exceed about thirty at the time. The ONCST today numbers 830 clubs in Tunisia , with more than 29645 members.
